Best Ways to Celebrate Mother’s Day

All year round mothers work hard not only to provide for their children but to also give them the support, care, and love that they need. Often, mothers are unsung heroes, and the things they do on a daily basis tend to be overlooked or are simply regarded as things normal to their roles, but the impact they’ve made in their children’s lives is undeniable.

Mother’s Day is a special day to celebrate these strong women that have poured their hearts and souls in order to keep their family together, even through the hardest of times. There are many ways to show your gratitude towards them, and even if your gestures aren’t as grand as the others, they will surely come to appreciate even the smallest acts of appreciation.

If you’re a little low on ideas for what to do on the special day, here are a few ways to celebrate the day and make your mom feel like the queen she is.

Cook up a nice breakfast

Wake her up by offering a hearty breakfast. It doesn’t have to be anything too fancy. You can cook pancakes, with scrambled eggs and bacon on the side or perhaps a bowl of oatmeal with delicious fresh fruits mixed into it. Additionally, If she likes coffee, then brew some of her favourite hot coffee to go along with the meal. Of course, these are just general suggestions. If you specifically know a meal that’s her favourite, then that can be what you can prepare for her.

If you’re feeling a little extra and want it to be even more of a surprise, try serving her breakfast ala breakfast in bed style. And maybe even include a simple but heartfelt card of appreciation and a bouquet of colourful, fresh flowers.

Give her a day off

When it comes to being a mother, there really isn’t a day-off so to speak because 24/7 they are always on mom mode, especially for their children. On this day though, you can try to give her some time off from her daily routine of responsibilities by handling the work she does at home like washing the dishes after meals, sweeping the floor, or doing the laundry. Furthermore, you can inform her the day before that she doesn’t have to wake up early, and that she can sleep in while you handle her morning routine around the house. At the same time, you can also encourage her to go out with her friends to relax or spend time doing the hobbies she might’ve neglected.

Spend the day together

One of a mother’s greatest joys is just to be able to spend time with her children. In this case, plan for a trip somewhere or even a fun outdoor activity and just spend the day together. Maybe treat them out to a nice restaurant, or even take them to a fancy one if you’re able to. Buy them something they like at the mall, go for a picnic, visit a place they’ve always wanted to go to, etc. Create those memories and take pictures to remember them. Simply have fun in each other’s company and try to get out of your comfort zones for a change!

Pamper her

Mothers go through a lot emotionally and physically. Though there are times when they might want to catch their breaths and go on a break, their busy schedules just won’t allow them to. On this day, give your mom the opportunity to relax and take her mind off of things by pampering her. Give her a much-needed massage, a fancy manicure and pedicure, or even a refreshing facial treatment. Not only that but you can also serve her a healthy smoothie to go along with that or her favourite snack. You can also play her favourite music on the stereo or set up a movie marathon for her, complete with comfy pillows and delicious popcorn.

Go on a movie marathon with her

Speaking of movie marathons, why not go on one with her on her special day? It’s cosy and easy to set up, especially if you’ve been busy and haven’t really straightened out the details of a full blowout plan yet.

To prepare for the movie marathon, you can make a list of her favourite movies to watch. Get the popcorn and other snacks ready along with the drinks, and of course don’t forget the fluffy pillows and comfy blankets.

Surprise her with a gift

Of course, how can you forget about gift giving? In which case, surprise her with a gift for the occasion! Although this takes a little more planning and a little digging if you haven’t been paying attention to what your mom might want but just won’t get for herself.

On the other hand, if you want to give a gift but are low on money, then going for a homemade one is something you can definitely try. Again, it doesn’t have to be anything too fancy. Perhaps make a scrapbook with pictures you’ve taken over the past year with her, or fill a mason jar with uplifting quotes written on pieces of folded paper which she can take out randomly and gain inspiration from. Furthermore, if you’re especially good with music, try making a song for her. Meanwhile, if you’re really into arts and drawing, try painting her a portrait! The possibilities are endless!

Put on a special show

If you have a rather big family, then why not try to stage a special show for her. For those musically-inclined, try hosting a mini-concert with the setlist being her favourite songs, or even your own original songs dedicated to her. But of course, it can also be a mash-up of different talents altogether. One might do a spoken word performance, the other might sing to show their appreciation, and the next could be a special act of some sorts. Whatever your choice is, it’ll surely make the household very lively and will be a fond memory to look back on years later.
