Child-Friendly Apps for the Kids

For the parent that’s always on the go and juggles many things at once, it may be difficult for them to keep up with their kids and monitor their every activity. In this digital age where information is easily accessible to anyone, it is only a matter of time before a child comes across something not appropriate for their age on the internet. While it’d be preferable if these children could go out of their houses to explore their surroundings and actively play with other kids their age, it can be difficult to allow them to as there are many external dangers lurking around. And with no parent or guardian to supervise them, it becomes even riskier to let them.

Without a doubt, it is in every parent’s best interest to ensure that their child is safe. Luckily, many application developers have taken this into account and made sure that these kids aren’t exposed to possible dangers on the internet but aren’t also left out when it comes to being able to use electronic devices as a means of keeping them occupied. Their solution? The creation of child-friendly apps.

Here are some child-friendly applications that any parent may allow their kids to use without having to worry about their child’s safety.

World Geography for Kids

This app by Kokotots allows kids to expand their world knowledge and introduces them to various countries and cultures all over the world by teaching them geography in a fun and easy way.

Made for children ages 5-8, this is the perfect app for them to start learning about the world—whether it be the continents, names of every country, or significant landmarks such as The Great Wall of China or the Eiffel Tower, this app has it all covered.

Ranging from spelling tests to entertaining quiz games and featuring a library of books, an interactive globe, and images of fascinating locations around the world, a fun but fruitful learning experience awaits. And what’s even better is that the app is free of third-party advertisements which ensures an overall clean and smooth user experience.

YouTube Kids

For years, YouTube has cemented its place as a massive streaming platform. All kinds of content can be found here such as vlogs, tutorials, gaming playthroughs, etc. Whatever the average user seeks, they shall find. However, with its very huge pool of content creators, oftentimes it can be difficult to find specific child friendly channels and content. Sometimes, the YouTube algorithm tends to recommend videos that just don’t make sense and possibly may not be apt for children to be watching.

But now, parents don’t have to worry about their children watching inappropriate videos or hearing uncensored foul language because YouTube has made a version for kids named YouTube Kids.

As YouTube describes the app, it is a “video app made just for kids”. This allows kids to be in a more contained environment where they are exposed to more family-friendly content that allows them to explore their imagination, ignite their creativity and express their inner playfulness. This app also enables them to find new interests and inspire them to think out of the box.

What’s specific in this app is that YouTube Kids enables parents to customize their child’s experience through the Parental Controls. With this, parents are able to limit their child’s screen time which sets a time for how long their child can watch videos on the app. Parents will also be able to check what their kids have recently watched and if they happen to not like one of the videos, they have the option to block it so their children can never see them again.

Toca Boca

Toca Boca is a game developer that specializes in the creation of child friendly games. Just a quick search in the App store and one will be able to see the numerous apps that they have developed.

Though some are paid, there are definitely a lot of free ones like the Toca Hair Salon which is a popular game for kids that allows them to create colorful hairstyles for the character on screen. Meanwhile Toca Life World enables children to create and design a world that’s to their liking. Additionally, they’ll also be able to make their own characters. Another popular game from this developer is the Toca Kitchen which is a simple but fun cooking simulator. Lastly, Toca Boca’s apps ensure that even without the internet, children would still be able to play them. So if they’re bored or fussy on the road, this’ll be able to keep them occupied while at the same time encouraging their creativity.
